Trying Caudalie skin care

I had a serious obsession with finding new great skin care products lately and got a whole bunch of different Caudalie skin care products.
They have an option of smaller travel sizes on their website http://uk.caudalie.com/ which I always do appreciate because it's perfect if you want to try new product with-ought a commitment of a full size and it's also perfect if you travel a lot (and I've been traveling a lot lately).

Caudalie skin care

This is what I got:

Purifying mask (A mask that absorbs impurities, tightens the appearance of pores, and reduces breakouts to support natural regeneration of healthy skin cells.)

Mix & Mask trio: Detox mask (sebum absorbing, deep cleansing, anti-oxidant and toxin draining, skin perfecting),  Moisturising Mask - (anti-oxidant, strengthening and moisturising, nourishing); Glycolic Peel (adds radiance, targets pigmentation, anti-dark spot, mild exfoliating- non irritating peeling)

Beauty Elixir (smoothes features, tightens pores, and gives the complexion a burst of radiance. An excellent base for make-up, this water awakens the skin in the morning and livens it up before a night out)

Grape water (refreshingly cool mist tones & moisturises skin. Enriched with moisturising polysaccharides and mineral salts, providing an instant boost of hydration)

Divine Oil (Enriching dry oil for body, face and hair)

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet (immediate and long-lasting calming and soothing action, reactivates the skin’s hydration mechanisms and restores its water reserves. As skin becomes stronger, it feels softer and more comfortable.)

Review: Natural Cleansing Konjac Sponge

I am always on a look out for a good face cleaning products. Ideal product for me is something that does not leave oily residue, washes the face gently but leaves a face very fresh, clean and soft.

Konjac sponge was one of the products that I was keen to try but also quite sceptical. I found one in a KIKO shop and decided to go for it.

That’s what KIKO says about the sponge:

,,Cleansing sponge with purifying action, pre-dampened in distilled water.

Made of 100% natural fiber, derived from the Japanese Konjac plant root, allows for an efficient and deep cleansing of your face.

Thanks to the irregularity of the surface and the capacity of the natural fibers to capture water and release it gradually, Natural Sponge removes dead cells and excess sebum with an effective but delicate exfoliant action.

Suitable for all skin types, in particular for very oily or easily irritable skin types, Natural Sponge is an innovative solution for the daily cleansing of your face.

The handy cord allows it to be hung up to dry after use.’’

It looks like a cute haf of snowball and it has this strange texture. It does exfoliate and massage skin well, but at the same time is super soft and bubbly. It’s an item that I was not afraid to even use it on the under-eye area and I would use for every day face wash. I used it for few times now and it leaves my skin very soft and glowy looking. You can also put some face wash on it, but since I tend to remove makeup prior to washing the face, there was no need for it.

When the sponge becomes dry, it shrinks to a smaller half-ball and becomes much harder, so it’s important to dampen it before use. Also it’s essential to let it dry completely after use, to keep it hygienic.

Dark under eye circles

I get asked so often from my clients why do they have dark circles and how to get rid of them. It’s a very delicate subject, since so many woman are sensitive about it. Dark circles can make face look more tired and aged.

Dark and discoloured under eye circles are two different types – some of them have reddish blue/purple type of colour, other ones are brown toned.

Unfortunately skin under the eyes is much thinner and more sensitive than the rest of the face. The bluish or purplish under eyes are usually caused by blood vessels showing through the skin and causing discoloration to show. It can happen if you get this genetically or when you are under a lot of stress and get tired- blood tends to flow more to the internal organs, leaving skin looking much paler, making the blood vessels show through stronger, so it appears that you are getting under eye circles. Ageing is also a reason for this type of under eye circles, because skin gets even thinner and more sensitive.

Another thing is, sometimes discoloration under the eyes can be caused by the allergies. The only way to prevent it would be discovering what you are actually allergic to. That way you could simply avoid those allergens. On the other hand, some allergies are seasonal, which it would be the best to consult a doctor and get proper medications to reduce it.

The brownish under eye is genetic problem, which is also really hard to have an effective treatment.

The first and most important step should be actually preventing under eye area from getting darker. Always try to use sun protection. It’s the best to wear sun glasses as well as use cream with a high SPF. Obviously drinking a lot of water (at least 2 litres a day) and having enough of sleep (7-9 hours of calm and quiet sleep) do miracles, but hardly it will be enough for an already existing problem. I would definitely recommend investing in a good and vitamin rich eye cream. Vitamin K is proven to lighten up the darkness. Also look for hyaluronic acid (it plumps the skin) vitamin C, E and retinol (prevents from ageing) infused creams.

Advises for models. Preparation for a portfolio photo shooting

I’ve been working quite a lot in model portfolio photo shoots lately and accumulated some tips what to do if you want to look your best for the portfolio pictures…

First of all… Sleep! Please please please get a good night sleep of at least 8 hours! This advice can go for anyone before a photo shoot really. Sleep does magic tricks for us: we have more energy, our skin feels and looks better, our under-eye’s gets lighter… I know that there is a makeup artist and Photoshop to help you, but the better feeling and looking you will arrive, the better job would be done by the team :)

Moisturise and exfoliate your skin a night before the session. The best way to go is to use a light scrub and a moisturising mask after. It would get rid of any flaky skin and unevenness and the moisture that plump up your skin, it calms any redness down, so any makeup would look better. I like to use moisturising masks on a clients on the day of session myself, but there is never too much moisture for the skin!

Practice in front of the mirror. Try different face expressions and body poses and see which ones are looking the best. Try to avoid cheesy poses as they are not suitable for a professional model portfolio. Think of a story you want to tell and try to achieve it in your pose.

Come well prepared- always have some of your personal clothes. Sometimes wardrobe would be provided and sometimes you would have to bring all the clothes yourself. But those are a must haves at all times:

For woman:

  • Nude and black underwear (it’s good to have a good push-up bra)
  • Strapless bra (better nude)
  • A little black dress
  • Nice tight jeans (not too worn up looking)
  • Black or tan pants
  • Few T-shirts and  tops
  • Shorts
  • Black high heels
  • Sandals, low heel shoes (black or tan)
  • Accessories (bring some of the bigger jewellery, scarves, hats- whatever you have in your collection- it can certainly ‘make’ the look)
  • Socks
  • Leather or jeans jacket
  • Bathing suit (one-piece or two-pieces according to your figure)

For men:

  • Couple of polo-shirts (in few different colours)
  • T-shirts (white, black and couple in different colours)
  •  Nice jeans
  • Suit
  • White and 2-4 coloured shirts to wear under the suit
  • Accessories (a nice and new looking belt, few ties that would go with a suit and shirts, watch, sun glasses, hats, jewellery if you have some)
  • Black or tan colour shoes
  • Tennis shoes
  • Socks
  • Swim shorts

Don’t be late! Firstly because it causes further delays, secondly the team members might be potential people to hire you for future jobs, and you don’t want to give a wrong impression!

Listen to the photographer directions. Even if you have your ‘pretty side of the body or best side of the face’, keep in mind that he’s the professional who understand lighting and poses and his experience lets you know what would look the best. Be flexible and easy to adapt, so the photo session will flow according to the plan without any disruptions.

Always make sure you deal with a professional photographer. Always check their portfolios (keep in mind if it’s too good looking- it might be not his photos). The guy that brags a lot about how awesome of a photographer he is, might be not the professional you are looking for!  You don’t want to spend all this time and then realise that finished result is not suitable to show to anyone.

And... Enjoy! :)

IMATS 2013 London

I was working the whole three days of IMATS exhibition at Makeup For Ever stand. It was an amazing experience- MUFE is one of my go-to makeup brands for a long time already, I met so many nice people and with some of them we will stay in touch for sure and the whole experience was just amazing. It was such a busy days but even all the girls were super tired but they still had smiles on their faces!

Unfortunately I couldn’t see any seminars, but managed to find couple of moments to get the items I needed for my kit.

I was very happy to find Stilazzi large on set bag at PAM stand. Usually I’m using my Zuca Pro Artist bag, but I needed something to carry on shoulder and large enough to fit quite a lot of products. Stilazzi bag quite spacious and clear- so it’s going to be easy to see where everything is and it has lots of different pockets, which is super convenient!

I also got Beauty So Clean cosmetic Sanitizer Mist with some samples of cosmetic sanitizing wipes. I already tested the wipes and can admit that it’s super convenient and definitely will be on my ‘what to purchase list’. I got a big bottle of mist, because sanitizing the makeup is one of the most important things to do when you are a makeup artist!

Of course, I couldn’t stay away from brushes, but I was good and got only few: one bdellium tools lip brush 542 (because it’s pink and because it can never be too much of lip brushes) and just 3 of Crownbush brushes.

Since Kryolan had good offers, I purchased one of Dermacolor mini concealer paletes in shade Medium. I already got one in Dark and I love that product...

At the very end of IMATS Make Up For Ever made us an amazing surprise. All the girls got massive bags of makeup products which even made us forget how tired we were! I was already swatching different products and cannot wait to put them in use!

Treasures from Lithuania

I just came back from holiday in Lithuania and of course I had to bring something that is not easy to find in UK :)

First I really wanted to bring a bronzer caller BIKOR Egyptische Erde (Egypt Earth). I have tried it several times before and I had an intention to add this item to my makeup artist kit for some time now…There are plenty of good things about this bronzer. It can be applied to achieve the most natural tan look or contour. I will make a more in depth review soon.
